Warehouse Closed for Spring Break

Partners is Accepting Nominations for 2012 Teachers Who Inspire Awards

Partners in Education is now accepting nominations for seven

Teachers Who Inspire Awards:

* Six $1,000 awards, including the

Noah C. Rodriguez Award for Excellence in Teaching

sponsored by the Santa Fe Community Foundation

*One $500 award for a teacher with less than three years’ experience

Guidelines

Letters of nomination are accepted from Santa Fe public school teachers and principals only. The nominee must be a full-time, certified teacher in Santa Fe’s public schools with plans to continue teaching in Santa Fe for at least one more year. You may not nominate a relative or significant other.

To nominate any teacher, provide the following information in the order presented in a maximum of two pages. Use specific details and anecdotes. Don’t tell anyone about your nomination — it’s a surprise!

1. Nominee’s name and school

2. Nominator’s name and school

3. Nominee’s background — Include the number of years teaching in Santa Fe, subjects and grade levels taught.

4. In what ways does this teacher inspire kids to make them want to come to class and learn? How has this teacher helped his or her students make academic progress? Include anecdotes that support this.

5. How does this teacher help and inspire other teachers (and the school and the school district)?

6. In what ways does this teacher work with parents and the community at large?

Partners is Accepting Applications for Teacher Opportunity Scholarships

The Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools is offering $200 to $500 scholarships to District employees who are taking education-related coursework during the 2011-2012 school year.

To apply, please provide the following information to Partners in Education by Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 5 p.m.:

Up-to-date resume
Current transcript(s) of coursework and grades
A short letter describing your educational goals, field of study and need for assistance
Two letters of recommendation:

One from your immediate SFPS supervisor

and one from another SFPS employee

Receipt or proof of payment for course enrollment during the 2011-2012 school year
Current course schedule

Materials may be sent through inter-office mail or delivered to Partners in Education, BF Young Bldg., 1300 Camino Sierra Vista, Room 109.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

Are Educational Assistants working on teaching degrees
Have worked in the District at least three years
Are pursuing bilingual certification or special education degrees
Have submitted all of the requested documentation

Teacher Warehouse Closed Week of Feb. 27

Tony Schillaci receives Music Educator Award

Congratulations to Santa Fe High School Band Director Tony Schillaci, who has received the 2012 New and Emerging Music Educator Award from the New Mexico Music Educators Association. Last year, Tony received a Partners in Education Teachers Who Inspire Award. Great work!

New Teacher Warehouse Hours

Partners’ Teacher Warehouse will now be open on Mondays and Fridays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The Warehouse will not be open on school holidays, and may be closed in the event of severe weather conditions. If in doubt, call first – 989-1209.

Support the SB-9 Mill-Levy for the benefit of all Santa Fe’s children

Don’t forget to vote today, Tuesday, February 7th, and support renewal of the SB-9 Mill-Levy. It renews an existing funding source for classroom computers and software, heating, cooling and roof repair, safe buildings and playgrounds and access for disabled students.

SFPS Makes Significant Strides in Energy Conservation

In response to Governor Martinez’s proclamation of the week of January 9th through 16th as Energy Awareness Week in New Mexico, SFPS has released a statement about significant strides in energy conservation: “In the 16 months of Santa Fe Public Schools’ Energy Conservation Program, we’ve saved over $233,000 operational dollars by initiating heating and cooling system upgrades, behavioral modifications, and lighting retrofits. We hope this partnership with the Governor’s Office, aimed at promoting wise energy management and resource use, will continue for years to come.”
